Fried Flowers

Good Friday evening everyone! I know I should have more of a life...I shouldn't be blogging at something after 6 o'clock on a Friday evening, right? Hubby is on evening shift. We're almost through week one, only seven more to go. :/ The baby & I just woke up from a nice nap, he is fed, changed & content watching TV, which is a rare thing. (the content watching TV part, FYI) Trust me, I would love to have something to do this evening. It gets really lonely!

It's not even really have having somewhere to go or something to do as much as it is have SOMEONE! Just having a girlfriend over to share a pizza with, chit chat, etc. My in-laws lives nearby but I'd feel like I was inviting myself into their space but more than that, it's easier for the little one to function in his own environment. (Easier for me too!) I digress, I don't want to feel sorry for myself anymore.

As for the name of this post, here's the scoop... A guy my husband works with asked if he had ever ate dandelions. We hadn't. He went on & told me that they were describe as tasting like mushrooms. I like mushrooms but I wasn't overly excited to try them. However, if you know how excitable my husband is, he got up & picked dandelions first thing this morning! I took some pictures of the experience because I thought it was blog worthy! Yeah, you're getting a real good idea for what kind of random people we are! HA!

First, he came back in & Googled some information. Surprisingly, there was more than one way to fix them & to use different parts of the flowers.

Laying them out flower side down, you want to handle them by the green bud while dipping & dropping in hot oil. The smaller they are the harder to handle, so look for bigger ones if you're willing to try this! He picked a total of 40, not by counting just by coincidence, & we cooked up 35; some were too small to use. I'll include the recipe for the batter at the bottom of the post.

Here they are frying. He was putting them in & I was dropping a lil dollop of batter on the buds. Then the baby needed tended to, so I didn't get pictures of flipping them over & also we almost ate them all before I got a picture of the finished product. We made these in two batches, by the way!

These actually taste like funnel cake, in case you're curious but say "Not for me!" So here I was using leftover batter to make little fritters. Yes, we even sprinkled them with powdered sugar!! As for tasting like mushrooms, well they must have been prepared differently.

Here's a close up of the greasy, sugary goodness before they were all gone. Breakfast of champions!

Batter Recipe:
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar
4 tbsp. water
5 tbsp. milk
1/2 cup of oil for frying
powdered sugar for sprinkling
Mix your dry ingredients then add your wet ingredients, then voila!

Hello again!

I feel like I have to reintroduce myself because it has been a month since I had the intention of blogging and all I have is that single post from March. However, I recently discovered an old schoolmate is blogging too and made me want to revisit and carry on. Actually, I'm still trying to get a feel for what I want to write and share without being too diary-ish. (I realize that's not a real word and kind of sounds like diarrhea...)

So for starters, a quick run down of the last MONTH since my first post:

In case anyone hasn't noticed, it's SPRING and it feels like it! Need I say more? We're loving it!

Easter was lots of fun! I loved shopping for new duds for my guys and fitting into a hand-me-down dress that my mom could no longer wear. Making a basket full of things that were not candy was also fun. The little one made out like a bandit from all sides of the family. I know he'll never remember it and it's really not necessary and we could save for college blah, blah, blah but we enjoyed it too! Most importantly we were blessed to be in another Easter service with our church family & worship the Savior who shed His blood for our sins.

Weeks following Easter seem to be a blur although I don't regard them as insignificant. Every day is a gift! I have just been keeping up with several doctor's appointments for myself & wellness visits for the little one. I also play secretary for my husband at times and we're gearing up for 2013 projects around the house. We hope to do some things outside & tie up some loose end projects inside, nothing major. It's really hard to do much with a 4 month old. I don't expect him to get out of his little routine & comfort zone just because there's something I'd like to do. I know it will get easier as he gets older.

In an effort to not try to back track & rack my brain too much, I'll just end this briefing here. I hope to blog more frequently, maybe weekly?

Until next time!

Love,
Lyns

So this is what a blank slate looks like...

The cursor is blinking & I'm trying to think of a creative way to name and write my first post on this blog. So, what do I do? None other than spell out to you exactly what I was thinking... "That's a big blank space that I am supposed to fill up."

I could attempt to fill up this space with past recollections & things that have made me who I am today so you can better understand me. I don't find that necessary. I've always liked the quote "You know my name, not my story." I've always felt misunderstood, especially by people who don't know the whole story; people who don't talk to me on a daily basis & just get snippets of what's happening in my life from social media like Facebook or knew me then but not now. Well this is my opportunity to fill you in on what's happening in my life at the present and that's all that really matters. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is not promised. Each day is a blank slate & you can determine what fills up your days.

Obviously, out of respect (and privacy) for myself & my family, I won't post everything happening but this blog will give me a chance to get my thoughts out of my head without becoming annoying of Facebook with some many status updates, etc.

Happy blogging!

Love,
Lyns
